A swing wall lamp — long swing-arm wall sconce with industrial-minimalist character. How does the swing arm work?
The arm pivots at the wall plate with about 180° of swing range — flat against the wall when tucked, rotated out for use. The bulb end can extend up to ~24″ from the wall. The pivot has internal friction so the arm holds its position once moved (doesn't sag) but can be easily repositioned by hand. The wiring is routed through the hollow arm — no exposed cord on the arm itself.
What bulb should I use?
E26 (US/CA) or E27 (EU/AU), standard medium base. For the café/loft aesthetic shown, use a vintage filament Edison bulb (G25 / G80 globe shape, 4–6W LED filament, 2200–2700K). For brighter reading light, use a frosted 8–10W LED in 2700K. Max 40W recommended (don't exceed) — the exposed socket has no heat shielding, so big bulbs get hot.
Hardwired or plug-in — which should I choose?
Hardwired (default): cleaner aesthetic, no visible cord, controlled by wall switch — best for permanent installations and rooms with existing junction boxes. Plug-in (conversion): no junction box needed, plugs into wall outlet — best for rentals, bedrooms where you want to install above the headboard without rewiring, or any wall where running new wire isn't possible. Where should I mount it?
Most common: bedside (mount at headboard height or 30–36″ above mattress, arm swings over to reading position). Desk: mount 18–24″ above the desk surface on the back wall. Reading chair: mount at shoulder height behind the chair. Hallway: mount at eye level. Always confirm at least 24″ horizontal clearance for the arm swing.
Black or Brass — which finish?
Black (shown): industrial-modern, café/loft, or contemporary minimalist. Reads graphic against light walls. Brass: warmer Art Deco or mid-century modern. Reads more decorative and pairs beautifully with wood and cream walls. Both have the same brass socket detail at the bulb. Black is the more popular choice for industrial spaces; Brass for warmer/softer interiors.
